Ridgefield may be small with a population of a little over 2,100, but it's in close proximity to the big cities of Vancouver just ten miles away and Portland just twenty miles away. Several top chefs have opened a variety of fine-dining restaurants in Portland. Ridgefield offers many wonderful housing options with some being on the waterfront. ~History of Ridgefield Between 1804 and 1806, the area was an important part in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. From as early as 1860, Ridgefield was an important trading center. On August 26, 1909, Ridgefield was officially incorporated. The American truck rental company, U-Haul, was established in Ridgefield in 1945. On March 29, 2005, the community dedicated a replica of a Cathlapotle plank-house, from ties they have to the Chinookan people. The replica is located at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
